STEP 1: FAMILIARIZE In terms of Context, by making the material given more familiar or similar to what is known to you, the process of learning becomes more personal and is easier to understand. Identify the parts of the text that you can relate and try to understand it from a more personal point of view. (10mins)
STEP 2: WRITE IT DOWN When you use more senses you tend to put in more effort, so by just reading a text you’re applying only your sight and hearing, but when you’re writing or drawing out what you’ve understood you use four senses. This makes it more likely you’ll remember what you learnt. SO, write out the important key words or points that struck you while reading the material. (15mins)
STEP 3: CLARIFY ANY DOUBTS/REVISE Reread the parts you haven’t understood or ask someone that knows the material better. ALWAYS make sure you know the entire concept and not bits and pieces of it. Half information is worse than not knowing anything at all, because the knowledge based off of the false facts will also be false. SO, don’t learn the wrong things and revise what you’ve learnt no matter how little or how much it is.(10mins)
STEP 4: APPLICATION Apply the knowledge you spent all class trying to learn. This is a sort of positive reinforcement that will motivate you to remember what you studied.(15mins)
STEP 5: REFLECTION Take a break once you’ve reached your saturartion point or when you feel you can’t read and understand any more, and reflect on what you’ve learnt.(5mins)
